2021-2022 Waters Edge (District C) Roundtable Meetings: 1st Thursday of Month
Our next Waters Edge Roundtable Meeting will be held on Thursday, October 7th at 7pm at the Marion United Church. Future meetings will be at Wayne Middle School Cafeteria. These meetings are open to leaders from ALL Packs, Troops and Crews to get information on what is going on in our District, in SWC, and all things scouting!
2021-2022 Waters Edge Committee Meetings: 3rd Mondays of Month
The District Committee Members will have our next meeting on September 20th at 7:00pm in Marion (addl details sent to Committee Members).
UNIT GROWTH PLANNING: 2021-2022
During the course of the summer, units were contacted to have a unit growth meeting. District Executive Will Gales (or a district volunteer) met with leadership in units to discuss struggles and how to effectively grow the unit this Fall. If you have not yet been contacted or need help to support your upcoming Recruitment or Joining Night Events, email Will Gales.

Pro-rated Fees for New Scouts (August)
I’ve received a lot of questions recently on how much it is to register a scout in the month of August, I thought I’d include this information…
For the month of August for returning scouts (youth who have been registered before) the pro-rated fee including insurance is $32.50. Brand new applicants who have never been registered before the fee is $57.00 ($32.50 + $25.00 new application fee).
The Adult pro-rated fee for this month is $21.25 as well.
UPCOMING DISTRICT & COUNCIL EVENTS
Wood Badge Course: September 24-26th & October 9-10th
This is a five-day course, completed over two different weekends. It is an exciting, action-packed program designed for councils to provide adult members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their Scouting positions and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others. Conservation Extravaganza: PART 2 — October 1st-2nd
This is a two-part event offered by Seneca Waterways Council, District C! The Environmental Protection Agency has teamed up with the BSA in celebration of their 50th anniversary to offer the EPA Award. Opportunities to earn Merit badges and complete service hours. 2021 Webelosree at Babcock Hovey: October 1st-3rd
The Webelosree is a yearly overnight event for first year Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts interested in camping and Scouting Advancement Activities. Cost is $16 per Webelos and $12 per Parent/Guardian. For more information, go to Webelosree here
Waters Edge District (District C) Cub Fun Day: October 2nd from 9am-12pm
This fun-filled event will take place on October 2nd, at Penfield Wesleyan Church (1580 Five Mile Line Road). Activities include: Penfield Ambulance, D.E.C. BALOO Training: October 15th-17th
Seneca Waterways Council will be having BALOO Training this weekend at Camp Cutler. For more information, contact Heidi Thorpe
Challenge Trophy Camporee: October 22nd-24th
This annual event is held at Babcock Hovey and has more than 800 activities during the course of the weekend. Day passes are available for Cub Scouts and their families; Troops & Crews are invited to stay for the three-day camporee. Registration, patches and additional information (maps, events, shooting sports permission forms, etc) can be found here for CTC 2021.
IOLS Training: October 23rd and October 28th
Seneca Waterways Council will be having IOLS Training at Babcock Hovey on 10/23 and the Scout Office on 10/28. For more information, contact Mark Juba
Wilderness First Aid: November 6th-7th
Are You Prepared? In this course, you will learn to understand and manage common medical illnesses and emergencies when more advanced care is not immediately available. Participants MUST HAVE: CPR AED Certification prior to coming to this course. Maximum registration is 25 participants. Early registration fee is $105 thru 10/08; after 10/08 it is $130. Waters Edge District Day of Training: Save the Date – November 14th
We will be having a District Day of Training on Sunday, November 14th at the Newark Fire Department (150 East Miller Street). More information coming soon!
OKPIK Weekend: January 7th-9th
This weekend event at Massawepie Campgrounds is designed to teach BSA Scouts the basics of winter camping. Scouts will be learning how to thrive in subzero temperatures, travel across frozen wilderness lakes and construct their own sleeping structures out of snow.For more information, contact Hiram Lyon
2022 Yeti Games: Save the Date – January 14th-16th
This fun-filled winter event at Camp Cutler is open to Cub Scouts, BSA Scouts & siblings. There will be gaga ball, snowsnake, klondike sled racing, fire building, broom ball. nature, ice fishing, crafts, STEM Projects, kubb, lumberjack and more. SWC University of Scouting: Save the Date – March 5th
The University of Scouting is a one day supplemental training opportunity for all adults and youth (12 and above). It will cover general courses (applicable to all programs), courses related to Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturing programs, and courses aimed toward youth leaders in Troops and/or Crews. This year’s event will be held at the Kodak Center in Rochester from 9am-4pm; more details coming soon!

- Power of 3! (Scouts can earn prizes by recruiting new scouts into the program! For more info on Power of 3, or you can enter your recruits here)
- Personal Invitations (personally contacting and inviting families to join your unit)*
- Being in constant contact with the school district, and asking if flyers can be sent home with students (check out this video for ideas)
- Checking “Be a Scout Leads” after accepting online applications
- Recruiting using social media (community FB pages)
- Creating Cub Scout flyers to promote the units recruitment events (download GIRLS flyer or download BOYS flyer)
- Appearance and recruitment at Community Festivals
