Training Degree Requirements

The University of Scouting degree program is an optional and informal program for adults wanting to track their training progress. Adults should track their own progress as they move through the degree programs.

Training Degree Degree Requirements
Associate Be fully trained for your scouting position(s) and complete a day of study (at least three courses) at a University of Scouting event.
Bachelor Complete requirements for Associate’s Degree. Complete an additional day of study (minimum 4 courses) at a second University of Scouting event.
Master Complete requirements for Bachelor’s Degree. Complete an additional day of study (minimum 4 courses) at a third University of Scouting event. Teach or co-teach one course at the University of Scouting. Teach or co-teach (staff) one course at an additional training event (e.g. District Day of Training, BALOO, etc.).
Doctor Complete requirements for the Master’s Degree. Complete an additional day of study (minimum 4 courses) at a fourth University of Scouting event. Teach or co-teach one additional training course at the University of Scouting. Complete approx. 100 hours combined of supplemental training (total hours can include degree level training). Examples include but are not limited to:
• Wood Badge (earn beads) (100+hrs)
• Strategic Training Planning Conference (16+)
• Trainer’s Edge
• Powder Horn
• Okpik (16hrs) and Leave No Trace Trainer (16hrs)
• Wilderness First Aid (16hrs)

Note: Scouters interested in the degree program can apply for their respective degree by completing a degree application form (available online or at the Scout Service Center). The application form is a good way to keep track of your progress. Recognition pins for the Master’s and Doctor’s degrees are available for purchase at the Scout Service Center.
