Friends of Scouting $60,000 Matching Grant

August Family Creates Legacy for Scouting

On Monday, March 9th, the August Family announced a $60,000 matching grant to the 2020 Friends of Scouting appeal of the Seneca Waterways Council, Boy Scouts of America.  All new gifts to the campaign, as well as gifts with an increased amount over last year, will be matched dollar for dollar until the $60,000 is matched (raising a total of $120,000 in new money).  This is the largest gift ever to our annual giving campaign.  Matches will be retroactive to March 1st and go until June 30th or when the match is fulfilled.

Double Your Impact:  If you have made your gift, we thank you and ask that you consider increasing it to benefit from the match and help your donation go further.  If you have not donated to the Friends of Scouting appeal, now is the time as every dollar donated will have double the impact on the Scouting program.  To make or increase your gift, donate online at www.senecawaterways.org/give.

Once the $60,000 grant is fully matched it will completely offset a reduction in funding from the United Way of Greater Rochester. A shift in United Way funding from $192,000 for our Scoutreach (city youth) program to $70,000  to our Exploring Program for career exploration leaves a significant funding gap to maintain and expand Scouting’s impact in the City of Rochester. We value our longstanding relationship with the United Way of Greater Rochester and recognize the important impact they have on community needs through their support of human service organizations.  However, as some of our programs do not meet all the criteria of their current funding model, your support of the Friends of Scouting appeal is more important than ever.

“We are extremely grateful to the August family for their continued generosity and support of Scouting in our community,” said Stephen Hoitt, Scout Executive/CEO, Seneca Waterways Council. He added, “Their charitable support is a testament to their dedication and commitment to the values of Scouting, and to helping today’s youth through Scouting’s character and leadership development programs.”
